The 4th Annual American Fine Wine

    Competition & Gala Dinner

      Presented by

The fourth annual American Fine Wine Competition takes place on January 16 & 17, 2011 at the Hyatt Pier 66 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.  This very exciting competition between more than 600 of the finest wines produced in the United States is closed to the public, but all of the wines can be tasted- accompanied by a thoughtfully prepared wine-friendly four course dinner- at the AFWC Gala on February 12, 2011.

The AFWC Gala is a fun and exciting evening, where all of the wines from the AFWC are poured by our volunteer “Wine Angels”.  Our guest emcee this year is Alan Kalter (announcer for the David Letterman Show) and with him will be some great entertainers: TBA.

We expect approximately 500 guests this year. The Gala will benefit the Diabetes Research Institute.

In the past three years AFWC has raised more than $350,000 for several local South Florida charities, and has created awareness of the amazing wines produced in the U.S., many of which are small independent “boutique” wineries.

The Competition

The Competition takes place over a two day period, and is open exclusively to judges, sponsors, and media.  Now entering its fourth year, the AFWC is one of the world's largest and most prestigious competitions devoted solely to fine wines produced in the United States.  Many of the participating wineries are smaller, family owned wineries and others are larger more recognized labels.   All wineries are personally invited once it has been recognized by the staff of AFWC as being medal worthy.

The Wines

As an exclusive, invitation only, fine wine competition, the AFWC allows only wines in specific categories and price thresholds to be permitted entry.  Wineries from throughout the United States are invited, with a majority of wine coming from California, Washington, Oregon and New York.  This year 600 wines will compete against their varietal for prestigious medals.  We require the submission of four bottles of each wine entered so those in attendance at the Gala dinner have the opportunity to taste many of these great wines.  We require one of the four bottles be signed by the winemaker and they are auctioned off to benefit charity.

The Gala Dinner

Following the judging, a Gala dinner takes place.  The Gala consists of a “Sparkling reception” followed by a four-course wine friendly gourmet sit down dinner.  Dinner is accompanied by all of the wines submitted to the Competition poured at the guests’ tableside by our “Wine Angels”.  The Gala dinner takes place at the Hyatt Pier 66 in Ft Lauderdale and presents a live and silent auction, featuring all the wines of the Competition; each bottle is signed by the winemaker.  The auctions benefit the Diabetes Research Institute and the Sun Sentinel Children’s Fund.
